Nordisk Oscar -2° Sleeping BagVIEW PRODUCT
Going on a pilgrimage to the tomb of Saint James is a rewarding experience for many. One of the most beautiful and greenest routes is the coastal road in northern Spain, the Camino del Norte. The fantastic scenery along the Atlantic coast was recently enjoyed by our colleague Patricia from our PCM team. With just a rucksack, she made her way from Soto del Barco to Santiago de Compostela in just two weeks. She regularly slept in the tent and tested the new Nordisk Oscar -2 ° sleeping bag. As a senior product content manager for the outdoor sector Patricia knows exactly the products available at campz.de/Addnature. When she’s not adding descriptions, specific details, pictures and videos to the latest products in the shop, she loves to go trekking. Read about how she got on with the Nordisk Oscar -2 ° below.
Being out and about in nature is for me the most normal feeling of the world – I’m a real outdoor junkie! It doesn’t matter if I’m on foot, on a horse or with my dog – I love all of it. In the past couple of years I have discovered a love for travelling for several days at a time. I’ve enjoyed walking and trekking tours in Germany, Austria, Sweden and everything in between. My fascination for nature can never be sated and I am constantly amazed with the diverse flora and fauna on offer.
The first impression
My trekking tours can range in length from several days to several weeks. I often sleep in tents and I always carry a sleep bag with me. Since my old sleeping bag was very worn, when I was asked if I would like to test the Nordisk Oscar -2 ° during my trip to Spain I immediately said yes. I noticed how soft the material was as soon as I unpacked it. My old sleeping bag was filled with down, yet the Oscar had a synthetic filling. I was curious to see if it could provide as much heat as the down.
Whilst walking along the Spanish Atlantic coast I slept partly in cabins but mostly outside in my tent. The alternating temperatures of the night were between 0 and 10 degrees. Thus, I had enough nights and optimal conditions to test the sleeping bag, which promises to keep comfortably warm at temperatures as low as 4 degrees.
As already mentioned, the Nordisk is a synthetic sleeping bag. Until now, I assumed that these, with the same pack size, often do not reach the high heat output as sleeping bags made with down. The Oscar is proof that a synthetic filling can compete with down-filled sleeping bags. For this reason, it is worth paying for a sleeping bag that is quick to dry and does not lose its heat output when it is damp.
The design and manufacture of the sleeping bag is very high-quality and well thought out. The semi-continuous zipper can be operated from the inside as well as outside and is attached without a disturbing Velcro fastener. It’s just a small detail but is useful. The generous hood can be individually adjusted by a drawstring and can thus cover almost the entire head if necessary.
The soft outer material is particularly good. It does not rustle and is super comfortable on the skin and provides perfect temperature control. The Nordisk Oscar -2 ° is very breathable which is apparent when used in higher temperatures. Whilst camping in warmer temperatures I never sweated.
Despite the sporty cut, the sleeping bag offers enough space for people who like to move around in their sleeping bags. Packing up the sleeping bag was also quick and easy. The compression straps on the packsack mean you can shrink the bag to small size – ideal for trekking.
