Above all, the stiffness of the sole, the drop (how far the sole is rounded to allow good rolling) and the shaft construction determine how a model positions itself within the categories.

D = very strong and fully crampon-proof (step-in/automatic crampon).
C = firm and conditionally crampon-resistant (strap-on/semi-automatic crampon)
B = firm grip and solid but flexing sole for trekking and hiking
A = soft, very good flexing construction

Double stitched
Traditional, very sophisticated handicraft, in which the shaft and sole unit are joined with seams.

Leather Lining
Very pleasant wearing comfort due to quick moisture absorption and for a natural wearing comfort. Good fit. Dries slower than synthetic lining; less suitable in very wet regions.

Reduced Seams
Fewer seams reduce the risk of potential pressure points, seam wear, etc. Looks simple, but is difficult and expensive to produce.

Thanks to the pinched or double stitched design, Hanwag's shoes can be resoled several times.
